You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Experience with Cerner's Millennium suite
  • Bachelor's Degree with a Minimum of 3 years' experience or Minimum of 5 years' experience as a CIS/HIS Programmer Analyst
  • Knowledge of  the Cerner data model
  • 5 + years complex level experience in two of the following Mpages, Discern Analytics, CCL, Discern Rules or ESH or equivalent coding experience
  • 3+ years  with working knowledge in two of the following Mpages, CCL, Discern Rules or ESH or equivalent coding experience

What You Will Need:
  • Experience:  3-5+ years' experience with clinical/technical system application implementation with Cerner required. (Customized for each group)
  • Microsoft Office suite experience required, Project desired
  • College Degree (B.A., B.S. or significant commensurate experience) in a field of study such as business, IS, or healthcare related area required.

Job Summary:

A Clinical Data Engineer (CDE) develops, implements and supports at least three of the following CCL (Cerner Command Language) related reporting solutions:  Event Set Hierarchy, Discern Analytics 2 Reporting, Rules and Alerts for all applications within the enterprise Clinical and Revenue Systems. The goals for support and development are aligned directly with the Clinical data needs of our facilities. The Senior Clinical Data Engineer projects can range from small functionality enhancements for one user to a broad user base that transform and optimize the process of an entire Clinical area. The Senior Clinical Data Engineer works closely with clinical staff for all applications including both in-house application level subject matter experts and the Clinicians at our facilities. A CDE is visible internal spokesperson for all Clinical Reports, Discern Analytics, Discern Rules and Alerts including educating both internal and external customers on the design logic for any Clinical Reports, Discern Rules or Alerts.

The Senior Clinical Data Engineer is responsible to understand and apply technology tools, systems, policies and processes that are required to ensure the protection of Adventist Health System data assets, Protected Health Information (PHI) and all forms of personal identity information.

This position will perform all procedures necessary for the secure operation, reliability and integrity of any data provided to our facilities or vendors across multiple Clinical applications.  This will include development, implementation, standardized coding documentation, appropriate testing techniques, structured troubleshooting techniques and quality assurance processes. The Senior Clinical Data Engineer is responsible to adhere to company policies and procedures in regard to data transmissions, development or maintenance requests.

 CDE will work directly with the user community and Clinical application teams to develop guidelines, processes, and infrastructure to accommodate user data needs.  Knowledge of change control policies and procedures are required to ensure that the user community understands the necessary procedures to maintain best practices for delivering requested data needs.  The CDE will conduct routine code auditing and evaluations as requested and provide management with appropriate assessments and recommendations.  The CDE will assist in the auditing of new and existing code to ensure that appropriate controls exist, that processing is efficient and accurate, and that all coding standards and procedures are in compliance with corporate and industry recognized standards.
